# Music (music.gatewayy.net) > Screen-reader-friendly chart history and music lookup: what was number one on any date across 37 singles and album charts (Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200, US country and R&B, Cash Box, the Billboard Global 200, UK singles and albums, and singles and often albums for Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland; each chart covers the years Wikipedia lists it), any song's or album's release date and chart peaks, an artist's number ones and hits, what's popular now, and the whole American Top 40 countdown for any weekend since July 4, 1970. Built by Brett Elliff for his blind twin brother Matthew. Chart data comes from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0); popular-now lists from Apple Music. ## For assistants - Use the plain-text answer at https://music.gatewayy.net/brief with one kind of question per request (one value per parameter; don't repeat a parameter or join values with symbols): - date=YYYY-MM-DD: number ones that week on every chart, singles first and then albums, countdown-show notes, and the Hot 100 number one on the same date in other years. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?date=1985-07-13 - song= and artist=: a song's release date, writers, producer, label and chart peaks. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?song=Jolene&artist=Dolly%20Parton - album= and artist=: the same for an album, with its track listing. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?album=Thriller&artist=Michael%20Jackson - artist= alone: the artist's number ones and other top 10 hits. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?artist=The%20Beatles - country= (two-letter code, add type=albums for albums): most played on Apple Music now. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?country=gb - date= leaves out the genre charts unless asked: genres=all adds all of them, genres=rock, latin adds those genres, charts=us-rock,uk-singles names exact charts. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?date=1985-07-13&genres=rock - classical= with a composer or work: the composer's best-known works, or recordings of the work on Apple Music with their movements, complete recordings first (composers and works from Open Opus). classical_work= takes a work id from those links. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?classical=moonlight%20sonata - chart= and year=: every number one on one chart in one year, with weeks at the top. Chart ids: us-hot100, us-200, us-country, us-rnb, us-cashbox, global, uk-singles, uk-albums, au, au-albums, at, at-albums, be, ca, ca-albums, dk, fi, fr, fr-albums, de, de-albums, ie, ie-albums, it, it-albums, jp-oricon, jp-hot100, jp-albums, nl, nz, nz-albums, no, kr, es, se, ch, ch-albums, ar, br, mx, mx-albums; Billboard genre charts us-rock, us-alt, us-ac, us-dance, us-latin, us-regmex, us-christian, us-smoothjazz, us-country-albums, us-rnb-albums, us-latin-albums, us-christian-albums, us-electronic-albums. https://music.gatewayy.net/api/charts lists each chart's name and first year. Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?chart=us-hot100&year=1985 - yearend= with a year: Billboard's year-end singles chart (the Year-End Hot 100 from 1959; top 30 or 50 lists from 1946). Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?yearend=1985 - at40= with a date: that weekend's American Top 40 countdown, all 40 songs with movement, the songs that dropped off, and the week's stats (biggest jump, debuts, number one a year earlier). Any date works; it uses the show on or before it. Add order=countdown to list it 40 to 1 as the show counted it. Read on demand from The Real American Top 40 fan wiki (CC BY-SA). Example: https://music.gatewayy.net/brief?at40=1981-11-28 - The same answers are at /api/brief. With no parameters it answers for today's date. Add format=json for structured data. - The web pages contain the same results as plain HTML, no JavaScript needed: https://music.gatewayy.net/?date=1985-07-13, /?artist=Name, /?chart=us-hot100&year=1985, /?yearend=1985, /?at40=1981-11-28. ## Notes - A chart's date is the date printed on that week's chart. Billboard's full weekly charts aren't freely available, so this site gives number ones, peaks and year-end charts, not every position of each week. The exception is American Top 40: every weekend's countdown is read from The Real American Top 40 wiki (https://therealamericantop40.fandom.com, CC BY-SA), with a link to the wiki page; Long Distance Dedications and special shows aren't included. - Search and assistant use welcome; AI training is not (see robots.txt Content-Signal). - What's new on the site: https://music.gatewayy.net/changes (RSS: https://music.gatewayy.net/changes.xml) ## Fresh copies Reports change through the day. Web fetchers may hand back a saved copy, so add v= with the current date and time (any value, e.g. v=202610170600; some fetchers strip a parameter named t) to get a fresh one; the site ignores it. With no date=, the report is for today in Central time.
